RIDGEWOOD, NJ - For just the third time in the past decade, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team has lost back-to-back games. Traveling to Ridgewood on the heels of their 5-4 Union County Tournament Final defeat to Westfield May 6, the Hilltoppers could not find the back of the net and dropped a 7-2 decision to the Maroons.
Quin Penne had three goals and Dylan Peabody had a pair of markers for Ridgewood. Harry Kilkowski scored twice -- once each in the first and fourth quarters, respectively -- for Summit, which saw its season record dip to 12-4. The Hilltoppers Will Vitton had 13 saves in goal.
Summit trailed 3-1 after the opening 12 minutes, 4-1 at the half and 5-1 after three quarters of play.
The stats were decidedly more level than the final score, with Summit having a slight edge in shots (21-17) and ground balls (15-11) while narrowly trailing in face-offs (6-7).
The last time Summit lost consecutive games was April 25 - 29, 2015 against Westfield and Seton Hall Prep however, prior to that, it last occurred May 3 - 6 of 2008, when the Hilltoppers lost to Chatham and Columbia.
Summit now awaits its state tournament seeding, with a tentative first-round game at Investors Bank Field set for May 17 at 4 p.m.
