On December 9, 2011 the Summit High School Make-A-Wish Club hosted a fundraising dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The Make-A-Wish Club organized this event along with the support of many local businesses. Taylor Creative Inc. of NYC donated various furniture pieces such as light up tables and leather lounge furniture that helped beautifully decorate the event hall. The Summit and Springfield PBA generously supplied sandwiches to feed event guests, and Erika Zecca, owner of "Erika Bakes" (www.erikabakes1.com), donated a beautiful four-tiered cake that was enjoyed by all. Over 175 Summit High School students attended and danced the night away to the fabulous music of "Summit Soundz."
"The generosity of our community was overwhelming," said Sarah Meyers club president. The Make-A-Wish Club event raised over $1,500, which was donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey. Through their fundraising efforts, and the strong support of the community, the Summit High School Make-A-Wish Club helped co-sponsor the wish of a nine-year-old girl, diagnosed with cancer to go to Disney World. Priya Marathe, vice president of the club said, "There is no better feeling than knowing that you have helped fulfill the wish of a very deserving child."
