SUMMIT, NJ - Keegan Mayer converted a penalty kick and goalkeeper Sophie Zachara made six saves, but the Summit High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team saw its record drop to 1-3 after a 2-1 defeat by Westfield on the Upper Turf Field.

Faith Dobosiewicz and Jane Sullivan scored in the first half for the Blue Devils, who had 12 shots on goal to the Hilltoppers' six. Westfield's Caitlin Amman was credited with four saves.

All three of Summit's losses have come in conference play. The Hilltoppers will next travel to Cranford to face the Cougars September 20 in a match that is set to kick-off at 4 p.m.

Gymnastics Beats Somerville

Junior Sofia Confalonieri and senior Caroline Griffith finished 1-2 in the All-Around, and the Hilltoppers swept the podium spots on Beam, as the Summit High School Varsity Gymnastics Team defeated Somerville, 99.875 - 92.575.

Griffith, Confalonieri and Margaret Griffith went 1-2-3 on Beam, Sophomore Emma Claus took top spot on Bars, and Caroline Griffith finished first in Floor Exercise. Other top Summit performances were turned in by sophomores Isabel Claus and Quinn Meyer -- second and third, respectively, on Vault -- and freshman Emma Burke who earned third place in Floor Exercise.

The Hilltoppers, now 1-1 on the season -- return home to take on Montclair at The Connection in Summit September 24. The meet begins at 7 p.m.

Boys Soccer Draws in Union

The Summit Boys Varsity Soccer Team banged on the barn door but could eventually break through, finishing with a nil-nil draw at Union.

Junior goalkeeper Jake Maslin had five saves for the Hilltoppers, now 3-2-1 on the season. Maslin's counterpart on the Farmers,  Manny Melendez, made 10 stops.

Summit returns home to Tatlock Park to take on Plainfield September 21 at 4 p.m.
