SUMMIT, NJ - Lawton C. Johnson sixth grade Social Studies teacher Jacek Lodziato has developed the winning text set as part of the latest context by Newsela.

Text sets are collections of resources from different genre, media, and levels of reading difficulty that are designed to be supportive of the learning of readers with a range of experiences and interests.

Lodziato's text set -- entitled "At the speed of light into the Fertile Crescent" -- was chosen from more than 300 submissions from teachers from throughout the country.

According to newsela.com, Newsela is an education technology startup dedicated to transforming the way students access the world through words. The company aims to "combine powerful technological know-how with real-world experience earned in the classroom, the newsroom, and the boardroom" by publishing "high-interest news and nonfiction articles daily at five levels of complexity for grades 2-12 using a proprietary, rapid text-leveling process."

By combining relevant and interesting nonfiction content with standards-aligned assessments, Newsela strives to "give educators the primary solution to dramatically improve students’ literacy skills for the 21st Century."
