Summit Middle Schooler's Fight Inspires 'Spike for a Cure' Volleyball Tournament Set for June 9

SUMMIT, NJ - 'Spike for a Cure', a volleyball tournament benefiting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of Sylvie -- a Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School student who is currently battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma -- will be held June 9, from 6 - 9 p.m. in the Summit High School Main Gym.

Teams are comprised of up to a total of 10 middle school students (grades 5 - 8), parents and - or teachers, with six players on the court at one time. Teams will compete in a round-robin tournament and winners of each category (students or adults) will win prizes donated by Summit businesses. Tournament organizers can help match prospective teams seeking members and individuals who wish to participate.

The cost to register is $200 per team, with registration forms available by visiting summit.k12.nj.us/uploaded. Completed form and a check -- payable to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society -- can be mailed or dropped off to Laura Burr at Franklin Elementary School, 136 Blackburn Road, Summit, NJ 07901.

Spectators can attend the event, with a a fee of $5 per family or $2 per individual payable at the door. The tournament is co-hosted by Laura Burr and Rachel Killeen. For further information, contact Burr at lburr@summit.k12.nj.us.
