SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Principals’ Association, in conjunction with the Summit educational community, has launched the Hearts4Hope campaign, illuminating worthy causes and generating funds for important community initiatives.

The initial campaign will benefit the Hassert Family. Carol Hassert is an active, involved, and caring resident of Summit with three children in the Summit Public School system. She is also the Summit High School principal’s secretary, and is now facing her second cancer diagnosis in two years.

Hearts4Hope is a luminary campaign and, through February 12, luminary kits will be sold for $20 each via an order form, which must be returned to a Summit Public School main office by noon on Friday, February 12. Kits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and advance orders are suggested. Quantities are limited.

Each kit includes 15 candles, luminary bags, and assembly instructions, which can be picked up at Wilson Primary Center on February 10 - 12, from 3:30 - 8 p.m. The campaign will conclude with luminaries being lit in front of participants’ homes, the evening of February 14.

Those interested in this event, but living outside of Summit, are encouraged to participate as well by purchasing luminary kits and lighting them at dusk on February 14, spreading hope throughout the area.

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
