Summit-Produced Film 'Tête-à-Tête' Selected for SOMA Film Festival Screening

SUMMIT, NJ - "Tête-à-Tête," a Summit-produced short film chronicling the intellectual connection between philosophers Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre and their vow of essential love, has been made an official selection of the SOMA (South Orange-Maplewood) Film Festival, which runs March 9 - 12 at the SoPAC Cinema in South Orange.

Hilltop City resident Lisa Reznik, Director of the The Film Society of Summit, served as the film's writer-director.

"We're very excited to showcase some of our tremendous local talent this year and Lisa and her work on 'Tête-à-Tête' is the perfect symbol of this endeavor,." said Matt Smollen, Director of the SOMA Film Festival.

Simone De Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre met in 1929 when they were both studying for the competitive national philosophy exam. De Beauvoir came second to Sartre's first, though the examiners agreed she was the better philosopher and at the age of 21 the youngest person ever to take the exam.

De Beauvoir became a writer in a range of genres who will always be associated with her landmark, The Second Sex, (1949) which inaugurated the modern feminist movement. De Beauvoir and Sartre worked closely throughout their lives and their love affair is well-known for its complexity.

Filmed in Paris. "Tête-à-Tête" will be screened with the New Jersey Filmmakers shorts Sunday, March 12 at 4:30 p.m.

A discussion w/the filmmakers will follow.
