SUMMIT, NJ - Michelle Derpich, currently the Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction for the Keansburg School District and an Adjunct Professor at Monmouth University, has been selected to fill the vacant role of Director of Secondary Education for the Summit Public Schools.
Pending Derpich's approval of Superintendent June Chang's recommendation at the upcoming Board of Education meeting March 16, she will assume the position formerly held by Donna D'Acunto, who resigned in December of 2016. Derpich is scheduled to begin her tenure on March 20.
As Director of Secondary Education in the Hilltop City, Derpich will oversee curriculum and instruction, data analysis, assessment, and professional development for grades 6 through 12.
Derpich began her career with the Freehold Regional High School District where she taught Psychology and Peer Leadership. After seven years in the district, she took on the additional position as the after-school RAISE Academy Supervisor. In this role Ms. Derpich supervised students, hired and managed staff, created schedules, and evaluated data that ultimately resulted in considerable positive changes in the RAISE program.
In 2011, Derpich joined the Keansburg School District and worked as Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction, as well as Principal at both the elementary and high school levels.
There, she rewrote curriculum to ensure that students were prepared for rigorous educational demands. She has had success in raising graduation rates, creating new programs, and developing new teaching staff. Derpich also worked collaboratively with teachers to align assessments to the curriculum and drive quality instruction, and was a key part of implementing the new teacher evaluation tool, and designing professional training sessions for teachers and administrators.
In her Adjunct Professor capacity, she works with teachers in the Provisional Teacher Training Program
A reception for Derpich, beginning at 6:30 p.m., will be held prior to the March 16 Board of Education Regular Meeting at Summit High School.
Summit High School is located at 125 Kent Place Boulevard.
