The Summit Public Schools has announced a Town Hall meeting on the topic of Full Day Kindergarten. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 6:30pm until 9:00pm at the Jefferson Primary Center, 110 Ashwood Avenue. The entire duration of the meeting is reserved to discuss Full Day Kindergarten in Summit.
A panel discussion will take place to educate the Summit community on the impact of Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) on the students and the town. The panel will present the educational, societal and community benefits of a FDK program, the financial and operational costs to Summit, the district’s facilities plan, and where FDK fits into the Board of Education’s priorities and goals. Additionally, early childhood education consultant, Kathie Priestley, will share an overview of FDK from a national perspective.
In addition to Priestley, confirmed panelists are: Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Nathan Parker; Board of Education member and chair of the Education Committee, Mrs. Celia Colbert; Business Administrator Mr. Louis Pepe; and Principal of the Primary Centers, Mr. Felix Gil.
Following a panel discussion, there will be one hour for public questions. Pizza and beverages will be served.
