Summit Schools Athletic Director Robert Lockhart to Retire July 1

SUMMIT, NJ - Robert Lockhart, K-12 Director of Athletics for Summit Public Schools since July of 2013 will retire, effective July 1 of this year, after a 34-year career in education.

“Mr. Lockhart is a true professional and a respected member of the Summit athletic community,” said Superintendent June Chang. “We wish him well in this next phase of his life.”

A search for Summit’s next Athletic Director will commence immediately.

“It’s been a honor to conclude my education career here in Summit,” said Lockhart. “I’ve enjoyed working with our student athletes, and have been continuously impressed with the sophistication and excellence of our athletic programs, coaches, and teams.”

Lockhart came to Summit having served a variety of coaching and administrative roles at Warren Hills High School (WHHS), where he was the Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities since 2011.
 
In addition to being athletic director, he also supervised the school's health and physical education departments. Lockhart was the head football coach at WHHS for 13 years, the head girls basketball coach for three years, assistant coach in boys and girls basketball, assistant baseball coach, and assistant track coach for numerous years during his tenure there.
