SUMMIT, NJ -  On the cusp of the New Jersey Department of Education releasing 2012-13 performance reports for all state public schools, Summit Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nathan Parker has communicated, in a letter to parents, several key success metrics achieved during the period.

Stating "we have much to be proud of in our schools", Parker touched on the following highlights:

Brayton Elementary
Students met 100% of targets in all areas, at all grades, and the percentage of students achieving advanced proficient increased from the previous year.  Brayton students' performance ranked “very high” compared to peer schools and across the state, in both academic achievement and student growth.

Franklin Elementary

The overall student growth performance has improved from the previous year's scores and rates “very high,” compared to peer schools and throughout the state.  Franklin outperformed 94% of schools statewide in the area of academic achievement. http://www.state.nj.us/education/pr/1213/39/395090080.pdf

Jefferson Elementary

Jefferson has demonstrated excellent growth towards the goal of closing the achievement gap for students.  There was improvement in nearly every category as compared to the peer schools across New Jersey.  In addition, the third grade demonstrated growth unmatched across the district, as nearly each student demonstrated proficiency or advanced proficiency in math and English Language Arts.  http://www.state.nj.us/education/pr/1213/39/395090090.pdf

Lincoln-Hubbard Elementary

Lincoln-Hubbard experienced a strong math performance, including 87% advanced proficiency in grade five, which is a school all-time high.  The school's academic and student growth performance is “very high” when compared to schools across the state.  College and Career Readiness indicators improved from the year prior, due to a reduction in students' absences.  At the third grade level, the number of advanced proficient students in English Language Arts has more than doubled.

Washington Elementary

The school's academic performance is rated “very high” when compared to schools across the state, and also “very high” when compared to peer schools.  Washington School met 100% of its target benchmarks.

On the elementary level, each school has room for improvement in the area of college and career readiness.  Attendance plays a critical role in the scores for this area.  The administration continues to encourage families to only take vacations during the designated school closings, as opposed to other times throughout the year.

Lawton D. Johnson Summit Middle School

Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School scored "very high" or "high" in every category compared to the peer group and to the state.  Its college and career readiness is also considered “high,” when compared to peer schools. http://www.state.nj.us/education/pr/1213/39/395090060.pdf

Summit High School

In the area of academic achievement, SHS has increased against the comparative group by 16% (from 73% to 89%) and by 11% (from 63% to 74%) against the total state from the previous year's data.   Additionally, 100% of the academic targets were met during the 2012-2013 school year.  The high school continues to show outstanding performance in the Advanced Placement program, with greater numbers of students involved.  In a new section of the report, Summit High School has participation in the visual and performing arts that is beyond compare, doubling the state figures in some areas.
