SUMMIT, NJ - David Stapleton and Darren Shimwell have been selected to fill the roles of co-directors of coaching at the Summit Soccer Club (SSC), beginning with the spring 2017 season. Stapleton will focus primarily on the girls program and Shimwell on the boys program.

This roles are the first of their kind at the SSC and, according to the Club, the structural development is designed to "move the club forward and foster a level of excellence within the club so that all players can reach their maximum potential."

Both Stapleton and Shimwell joined the SSC as trainers in 2012, currently reside in Summit, and have obtained qualifications with UEFA, USSF and the NSCAA over the past 10 years within the sport.

Stapleton is originally from Dublin, Ireland, obtained his NSCAA Premier Diploma in 2016 and is currently training 22004 and 2005 boys teams. Stapleton credits his father, who has more than 25 years experience coaching soccer in Dublin, as his main influence to be a professional coach.

Shimwell comes from Middlesbrough in the northeast of England, and currently trains 2006 boys’ teams as well as the 2003 girls. He also spent time in Long Island as a coach before returning to SSC in 2015. Shimwell also obtained his NSCAA Premier Diploma in 2016 and is currently the Director of Coach Education at Impact Soccer.

“The players of this Club deserve the highest standard, and we are fully committed to achieving this consistently. We feel Summit Soccer Club has the ability to be an example to other soccer clubs and provide our players with the resources to reach whatever level they desire within the game," said Stapleton.

Shimwell added, “In these exciting new roles, we have high hopes of developing a strong group of coaching staff that will give their all to ensure the players at the club always experience excellence as we mold the young adults and athletes of the future. We will create a highly competitive and challenging environment for all of the soccer players at the club in order for them to maximize their potential... encouraging all players to perform with great effort, great enthusiasm and great toughness all while respecting everything and everyone involved in the process. Practicing with that emphasis is critical!  Superior results for players and teams are only an output of the philosophy and process we will employ at every level of the club.”
