This year, the Summit Elks Lodge # 1246 joined forces with the City of Summit Mayor’s Celebration Committee and the Summit Department of Community Programs to produce a fabulous Flag Day Ceremony on Summit’s beautiful Village Green. Flag Day is celebrated nationally on Friday, June 14, 2013. Summit’s event will be held on the beautiful Village Green. The event starts at 7:00 PM. The Ceremony, Flag Parade and Awards Presentation will occur on the Green closest to the intersection of Broad and Maple Streets, across from the Summit Train Station. Scheduled performances by the Summit High School Brass Ensemble, The Continuo Arts Foundation’s Civic Chorale, The Summit Police and Fire Department honor Guard, the Boy Scout Venture Crew 1246 and presentations by the Officers, Trustees & Members of the Summit Elks Lodge # 1246.

“This year’s event will be extraordinary”, explained Robert Peacock, the Summit Elks Flag Day Event Chairman. “With the cooperation of several City agencies and the wonderful music provided by the Continuo Arts Foundation’s Civic Chorale, it will be an event that area families will enjoy!” There will be music, a parade of flags, special readings and the ceremonial burning of retired flags. “The Summit Elks are extremely grateful for the Summit Fourth of July and Celebration Committee's sponsorship of the event.” “Patriotic events such as these have always been important, but never more important than right now.”

In the event of rain, the Flag Day Ceremony will move to the Elks Lodge located at 40 Maple Street in Summit. For more information on this event, go to www.SummitElks1246.com or www.cityofsummit.org
