Summit's Kaela Basmajian, Antonia Sylva Among 11 Oak Knoll Seniors Recognized as National Scholars

SUMMIT, NJ - Hilltop City residents Kaela Basmajian and Antonia Sylva are part of a group of 11 Oak Knoll School seniors recognized for their individual academic performances on the 2016 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Ten seniors were honored for being named commended students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program:

Kaela Basmajian ’18, of Summit; Antonia Sylva ’18, of Summit; Lindsay Criqui ’18, of Essex Fells; Elizabeth Denehy ’18, of Essex Fells; Kaitlin Feit ’18, of Chatham; Xinyu “Sherry” Gu ’18, of Watchung; Christina Nguyen ’18, of Watchung; Juli Porto ’18, of Berkeley Heights; Isabel Sangimino ’18, of Chatham; and Ryan Schlageter ’18, of Maplewood..

The seniors are among the approximately 34,000 students who earn commended status throughout the nation each year. Although they will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, the seniors nevertheless placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2016 PSAT/NMSQT.

In addition to these students, senior Yahaira Torres ’18, of Elizabeth, was selected by the College Board as a National Hispanic Scholar, as she scored among the top 2.5 percent of Hispanic and Latino students who took the PSAT/NMSQT in the Middle States Region, which includes New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

02/01/2018, 7:26 am - FD dispatched to Route 78 East Bound mile marker 47.2 for a reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment and injuries. On arrival both the Springfield and Summit Fire Departments set up for extrication. The vehicle was chocked to stabilize the vehicle. EMS performed patient care. A hose line was stretched for possible fire suppression by the Berkeley Heights FD.
