SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Public Schools are accepting applications for the 2014-2015 Preschool Program. Applicants must be residents of Summit and have birth dates between Oct. 1, 2011 and Oct. 1, 2014. Students will be selected for this program by lottery.
On Dec. 13, applications for the Pre-K lottery will be available on the district website at www.summit.k12.nj.us. During school hours, applications may also be obtained in person at the Primary Centers, the Office of Special Education Services, the Summit Board of Education office, and at the main office of any one of the Summit public elementary schools. All applications must be returned to the Office of Special Education Services, at 14 Beekman Terrace, by no later than 4 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2014.
The lottery drawing will be held at the Board of Education offices on Jan. 16, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. Parents of applicants are welcome to attend but need not be present at the drawing. All applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by phone and email. Children who are not selected will be placed on a waiting list. Special education students are included in the Preschool Program as determined by the District Child Study Team.
Preschool classes may include both three and four year old children. Classes will meet five days per week, Monday through Friday, except for one Friday per month that will be determined at a later date. The morning session is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the PM session is from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. An original birth certificate or Passport and proofs of residency will be required for those students admitted to the program. A tuition fee of $350 per month will be charged for participation in this program during the 2014-2015 school year. Students who qualify under the income eligibility guidelines set forth under the Federal Child Nutrition Program may be eligible for a reduced charge. Summit’s Preschool programs are located at the Primary Center at Jefferson, 110 Ashwood Ave., and at the Primary Center at Wilson, 14 Beekman Terrace. Both facilities were inaugurated in September 2008 and use the Creative Curriculum for Preschool. The Preschool classes are comprised of lottery students and students who are have been found eligible for special education. Tours of the Wilson Primary Center will take place Dec. 9 and Jan. 8; tours of the Jefferson Primary Center will take place on Dec. 10 and Jan. 7.
