Summit's Temple Sinai Debuts 'Lunch & Learn' Events Beginning Mar. 4

SUMMIT, NJ - Temple Sinai in Summit will host a series of 'Lunch and Learn' events beginning March 4. The informative and interactive events include:

Is Forgiveness Really Necessary? - Sunday, March 4, from 1:45 - 3 p.m.

An animated clip called “Landlord” from Hanan Harchol’s “Jewish Food for Thought” series will inspire a discussion on forgiveness.  How does Judaism understand forgiveness?  What makes it so hard to offer forgiveness?

Rabbi Ellen Lewis is a licensed modern psychoanalyst in New York and New Jersey.  She was one of the first 20 women ordained in the Reform Movement.  For over 30 years, she worked in the congregational rabbinate while also maintaining a psychotherapy practice.  Her essay “Changing Your Past: Reflections on Forgiveness” appears in the new Mishkan Hanefesh: Machzor for the Days of Awe.

Three Jewish Painters in Paris with Janet Mandel - Tuesdays,  March 20, 27, April 3 and 10, from 12 - 1:15 p.m.

Camille Pissarro, Amadeo Modigliani and Chaim Soutine were trailblazers of the Parisian avant-garde, despite their outsider status as Jews.  In Jazz-Age New York City, Florine Stettheimer portrayed subjects considered controversial even today, such as race, sexual orientation, gender and religion.

Janet Mandel taught Art History, World Languages and Culture in New Jersey’s public schools.  She also has presented illustrated lectures on art history at museums, schools, libraries and JCCs.
