SUMMIT, NJ - Girls and Boys Swim Team members Emily Vlass and Tim Kostolansky have been named Summit High School Athletes of the Week, presented by The Alternative Press of Summit, for the week ending January 26.

Each week throughout the school year, one girl and boy athlete will be honored for distinguishing herself / himself in the arena of competition, in the classroom, and for demonstrating exemplary, Hilltopper-caliber sportsmanship and leadership qualities.

Vlass came in third in the 100 Breaststroke at the Union County tournament.  A junior, she has led the team in points earned this season.  “Emily is a great competitor who swims hard and wants to put up great times, but also loves to see her teammates succeed,” said Summit Girls Swim Team Head Coach John Ross.

Kostolansky, a senior team captain, set two county records in the 200 IM and the 100 Fly at the Union County meet on Sunday.  He has the second fastest time in the IM, and the third fastest time in the Fly in the state.  Kostolansky has also helped the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay teams achieve meet-champion times.

"Tim is highly regarded throughout the state has having nearly perfect stroke technique.  What makes his swims remarkable from counties is that he was able to beat the records without any close competition to push him. He won the IM by almost 9 seconds and the butterfly by 3 seconds.  He was without question the most dominant performer in the meet," said Summit Boys Swim Team Head Coach Luke Piede.

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
