The Seventh Grade Summit Boys Lacrosse Team stands with Summit Police Chief Robert Weck as the boys deliver a $3,555 check for the family of Detective Matthew Tarentino. Many of the boys had "Officer Matt" as their D.A.R.E. officer and recall his visits to their classroom or a simple conversation as they walked about town.

Embodying the spirit that Tarentino and his fellow officers have built  -- anchored by a strong community bond --  the boys, their families and their coaches made an concerted effort to raise funds in light of the tragedy felt throughout the Summit community.

Moved by the gesture and its generosity, Weck told the team that Tarentino's tireless energy and generosity was evident in them and an example of how his spirit will remain in the community forever.
