SUMMIT, NJ - The Alternative Press recognizes Summit High School's Katie Watson, a record-setting cross country runner who became the 2010 Union County Conference- Mountain Division Individual Champion and the overall Union County Champion after a tremendous season for the Hilltoppers.
Katie’s coach, Dave Field, had this to say about his championship-caliber student-athlete: “Katie is one of the hardest workers I have known in my 13 years of teaching/coaching. Her commitment to getting the most out of her ability is second to none. Katie leads by example, always working hard, always in the weight room trying to get stronger. She is always the last one to leave practice. She is constantly trying to motivate and inspire her teammates through her actions, words and leadership. I feel honored to have coached such a great talent. Katie has been a great champion who exhibits all the positive attributes of a great leader. She has left her mark on this cross country team and left the bar very high for others to follow.”
While Katie set individual marks and records in 2010, she was also the consummate teammate and during her Summit career and was a part of a State Sectional Championship team, two Conference Championship teams and two Union County Championship teams.
Katie became Summit’s first Overall Individual Champion since 1987.
