SUMMIT, NJ - Filip Wilfrid reached the Summit Farmers Market 'podium' last year, earning a second-place finish in the hotly-contested Apple Pie Contest,

This year, the Berkeley Heights resident and life-long baker came to the Hilltop City once again and reached the summit, claiming the crown in the Blueberry Muffin Contest that marked the Market's first 'Sunday Funday' of the season.

Wilfrid's "Blueberry Crunch Muffins" edged out entries from a record field comprised of 25 other entrants. Second place went to Brandon Connors, who used his grandmother’s recipe, which combines recipes from Morgantown, WV, and Italy.  Student Ashley Wang took home third prize.

Contest judges, Bob Conway, Amy Currie, and Councilman David Naidu, tasted all 26 muffins, scoring each based on flavor, texture, and appearance.

“Thank you to all the contestants for entering, the judges for their expert palettes, and the Summit Farmers Market team for helping make the contest a success,” said Nancy Adams, Summit Downtown, Inc. Executive Director.

'Sunday Fundays' continue with a Salsa Contest on September 10, Pumpkin Painting on October 29, and Pumpkin/Sweet Potato Pie Contest on November 12.
