SUMMIT, NJ - The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit is debuting a new Winter Break Mini-Session, a four-day art class for adults and kids looking to sample an art class and fast track their skills.

The Winter Break Mini-Session will be held over the winter holiday break, December 28-31. Those interested can sign-up for a super-condensed mini-session and get a month’s worth of classes in just a week. Classes include digital photography: imaging and editing, drawing and perspective and landscape painting in acrylic or oil.

Kids in the Let’s Build It! Mixed Media and Sculpture mini-class will create magical 3-D snow globes of winter scenes, festive hand-made bowls, and build their very own frozen friend, using crafts to make a snowman. Also offered for kids and teens: A Little Bit of Everything! (ages 9-12) and Team Sculpture! (ages 11-15).

A new kids’ class, Let's Build It: Mixed Media & Sculpture (ages 6-9), will introduce young artists to the work of Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and Keith Haring to inspire one-of-a-kind pieces.

The Art Center also offers several hands-on workshops for all ages throughout the season, like Pee Wee’s Prodigies (ages 4-6), and other one and two-day workshops, also offered on weekends.

Individuals registering by November 29 will receive a $5 discount, with registration available in a number of ways: online at www.artcenternj.org; by calling 908-273-9121; via fax 908-273-1457; in person at the Art Center, located at 68 Elm Street; or by mail (68 Elm Street, Summit, NJ 07901).

Fear of Rising Rates? Remember The Reason You Own Bonds

If the current interest environment has you concerned about your bond portfolio, remember why you are investing in bonds.  The role bonds, or fixed income, play in a portfolio is not solely based on performance.  Bonds are used to offer stability, particularly when stock market volatility is rising. Rate hikes can dampen bond performance, but keep perspective on how rising rates impact ...

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
