SUMMIT, NJ - A water main break on River Road, between Morris Avenue and Butler Parkway, has resulted in a closure of the section of the thoroughfare and traffic snarls in the area. New Jersey American Water crews are on scene, with the emergency repair work having began at 12 p.m. and expected to take approximately four hours to complete.
New Jersey American Water is advising residents in the affected area that they may experience discolored or cloudy water, low water pressure, or no water. When water service is restored, customers may experience discolored water. If the water is discolored, residents are advised to run the cold water taps only -- at the lowest level of the house -- for approximately three to five minutes until the water runs clear.
Landlords who have water service is in their name are asked to inform their tenants, so they are aware of this impact to their water service.
