SUMMIT, NJ- The Hilltop City has been listed as the ninth 'snobbiest place in New Jersey' by roadsnacks.net, a website that uses "bite-sized snacks of shareable information about places and cities across the country. We call it the ‘other’ side of regional infotainment."

Princeton occupies the top spot as the most 'snobby' place, neighboring Chatham is second, and Westfield is seventh.

According to roadsnacks.net, their mission is to "...try to paint a picture of what’s happening in a region based on 'Friday Night Science' — how’d you argue at a bar. To do that, we gather data from around the web to help determine a wide array of factors about where you live, things like safety, desirability, and culture."

The website used the following methodology to come up with the results:

Reviewed 236 'places' in New Jersey with populations of 5,000+, then analyzed the following:

  • Median home price
  • Median household income
  • Percent of population with a college degree
  • Private schools per capita
  • Theaters per capita
  • Art galleries per capita

Each 'place' was then ranked from 1 - 236, with the lowest total scores used to comprise the list.

In the brief snapshot of Summit, the site details a median household income of $115,000+ and a median home price of $785,000+ and notes, "...with a median home price of nearly $800,000, they put the “OH MY GOD” in “OH MY GOD THESE HOMES ARE EXPENSIVE.”

Roadsnacks.net is quick to add that, "Now before you get upset and ruin your blowout or something drastic here, let’s remember that this is all in good fun."

The complete Top 10 list:

1. Princeton
2. Chatham
3. Mendham
4. Edgewater
5. Glen Ridge
6. Bernardsville
7. Westfield
8. Hoboken
9. Summit
19. Oradell

Fear of Rising Rates? Remember The Reason You Own Bonds

If the current interest environment has you concerned about your bond portfolio, remember why you are investing in bonds.  The role bonds, or fixed income, play in a portfolio is not solely based on performance.  Bonds are used to offer stability, particularly when stock market volatility is rising. Rate hikes can dampen bond performance, but keep perspective on how rising rates impact ...

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
