CHATHAM, NJ - There must be something about the Chatham round-robin holiday tournament that brings the best out of Summit High School's basketball captains.

A day removed from Girls Varsity captain Christina Richson's career high 28 points, Boys Varsity captain Will Schaffer achieved the same feat by dropping 31 on New Providence, propelling a fourth quarter comeback by The Maroon & White that carried them to a 64-57 victory over New Providence.

Down by nine at 43-34 heading into the final frame, Schaffer had 13 of the Hilltoppers whopping 30 points in the fourth, as Summit outscored the Pioneers by 16 and won going away.

Sophomores Malcolm Sidebottom (11) and Finbar McCormick (9) combined for 20 points as Summit raised its season record to 2-3.

Girls Fall to Hunterdon Central

Despite a spirited fourth quarter comeback and three more three-balls from captain Christina Richson, the Summit High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team was defeated by Hunterdon Central 48-39 in the Chatham round-robin holiday event.

After a tough third quarter that saw Summit outscored 19-9 and subsequently trailing 39-21, the Hilltoppers made a game of it in the final eight minutes, 'winning' the quarter 18-9 and eventually cutting the deficit to seven points with under three minutes to go, but Hunterdon Central was able to stave off the rally and close out the game.

Richson had five rebounds to go with her 14 points, and Eliza Rustum threatened a double-double with seven point and nine boards. Captain Anna DiSibio had seven points, and Catherine Maloney chipped in six for The Maroon & White, which saw their record dip to 2-3.
