Berkeley Heights YMCA and Summit YMCA Enhance Offerings with New, Unlimited Fitness Classes

Summit, NJ, September 5, 2014 – The Berkeley Heights YMCA and the Summit YMCA have expanded their fitness options with the launch of exciting, new group fitness classes. The expansion of the fitness program enhances the breadth and depth of wellness offerings at the YMCA. As a cause-driven organization, the Y is focused on improving the health and well-being of the community. Members and potential members, alike, are encouraged to try the new classes.

The Berkeley Heights YMCA has added two new, exciting classes to its fitness roster. TRX Suspension Training is a new class that leverages gravity and body weight to develop strength, endurance, balance, flexibility and stability. Members can register for a four-week session of TRX at no additional no cost. For individuals who are interested in developing lean, elegant muscles, the Barre Sculpt Class uses targeted and precise movements that strengthen muscles. Barre Sculpt classes are also offered at no cost on a drop-in basis so registration is not required. Additionally, the Berkeley Heights YMCA will offer fitness classes for teens beginning the week of September 15th. Teen group exercise classes, for adolescents who are 13 – 17 years old, will include Yoga, Cardio and Sculpt and will be held after school on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, respectively.

“At the Y, we want to remain current with the latest trends in fitness” said Lisa McQuilkin, Wellness Director of the Berkeley Heights YMCA. “If it is important to our members, it is important to us. We are here to ensure that we provide every opportunity for individuals to improve wellness – and we believe these classes will help them reach their fitness goals.”

Renovations made this year to the Summit YMCA have created space for new fitness studios and, as a result, the Y has expanded its fitness program offerings to include specialty group exercise options as an added value to members. As part of the renovations, a new, fully equipped Barre studio was established for Barre Sculpt classes. Additional Yoga studios allow for a variety of classes, including Hot Power Vinyasa Flow, Rapid Hot Vinyasa Flow, Hot Yoga Inspired Boot Camp and Essential Yoga with Therapeutic Oils. Primal Fitness is a new class that offers a total body workout by focusing on seven primal movements including jumping, walking, carrying, squatting, running, throwing and lifting. The Summit YMCA has also added TRX Suspension Training classes, as well as Jillian Michaels Body Shred, which uses an interval method to focus on strength, cardio health and abdominal muscles. Summit YMCA members are entitled to all of these classes, unlimited, at no additional cost, which provide flexibility and diversity to exercise routines. Another new fitness offering is Boxing, which provides an opportunity to build upper body strength while improving aerobic endurance and balance. The boxing class is an additional cost to members.

As part of the Y’s commitment to promote healthy living among children and teens, the Summit YMCA launched the H.E.A.T. (Healthy Eating Active Teens) Program for teens who are 13-17 years old. The program, which begins October 1, offers fitness classes after school and includes Yoga, Zumba and more.

“We are raising the bar with our fitness options,” commented Heather Worthy, Wellness Director at the Summit YMCA. “Each week we offer over 130 classes so that our members can take wellness to a whole new level. With all of our new options and offering unlimited classes, the Y is truly the best value in town.”
