UNION CITY, NJ - Holding their opponent to an offensive output 23 points below its season average, the Summit High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team won at Union City, 49-32. While the defensive effort anchored the victory, Summit's Dynamic Duo of junior Olivia Lawlor and senior captain Annabella Yorio had another big game, teaming up to score a combined 38 points and grab 21 rebounds.

Lawlor led all scorers with 22 and added eight 'boards, while Yorio tallied an industrial strength Double-Double, dropping 16 points and snaring 13 rebounds. Senior captain Sarah Maldonado had six points and four caroms, senior captain Kiran McCormick dished four assists, and sophomore Stephanie Sexton grabbed six rebounds.

The win lifts Summit's 2021 mark to a spiffy 9-2.

Trailing 9-7 after one quarter of play, Summit dialed up the offensive thermostat to score 15 second-quarter points and take a 22-17 halftime lead. The visitors' lead stretched to nine points after three and then the Maroon and White 'D' took over in the final frame, grounding the Soaring Eagles by holding the hosts to just five points.

Summit is right back on the court March 2, traveling to Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
