John Buscaino, Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad President, and Kari Phair, its Chief, accept a proclamation from Summit Mayor Nora Radest designating September as 'Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Month' in the Hilltop City.
The Squad, formed on July 28, 1962, currently has 85 regular and junior members who answer some 2,300 calls a year. Radest recognized their efforts in Summit, Hoboken, and New York City, on September 11, 2001, and the days following the 9/11 attack. Pointing out that the Squad receives no taxpayer money and saves the city a million dollars a year, the mayor called on the community to support the squad both by contributing and volunteering.
