09/19/2018 6:41 pm - FD dispatched to BALTUSROL ROAD for a reported car fire On arrival met with driver who informed FD his front passenger side brake was on fire. Upon investigating found an over- heated break drum but no fire. Drum and brake assembly was cooled with water until no heat, steam, or smoke was present. County PD arrived and called for a tow.
09/21/2018 2:33 pm - FD dispatched to a HOBART AVENUE residence for a reported structure fire. Millburn FD also dispatched as a Firefighter Assistance and Search Team for a report of a structure fire. On arrival FD found the contents of the oven on fire. FD personnel extinguished the fire and checked for extension with none found. Millburn FD was canceled in route. FD personnel secured the gas and electric to the stove and ventilated the structure. The occupant was advised to have the stove checked by a licensed repair person before using again. FD personnel assisted the homeowner with resetting the fire alarm.
09/23/2018 1:06 pm - FD dispatched to a CHESTNUT STREET apartment complex for a reported cooking fire. On arrival FD met the resident who stated that they burnt food in a pan on top of the stove. Investigation found a smoke condition in the apartment with no fire. The apartment was ventilated using positive ventilation.
10/3/2018 12:22 pm - FD dispatched to a HILLCREST AVENUE residence for a reported cooking fire. On arrival FD found that burnt food from cooking created a slight smoke condition that caused the alarm. Natural ventilation used to remove the smoke, and the alarm was reset prior to FD arrival.
10/6/2018 6:32 am - FD dispatched to ROUTE 78 WEST mm 45 for a report of a vehicle fire On arrival NJSP on the scene with a unoccupied Dodge Caravan with the engine compartment fully involved with fire. Summit FD extinguished the fire with the assistance of Berkeley Heights FD. Summit FD remained on the scene until vehicle was removed A Modified Signal 10 was transmitted for station coverage.
10/11/2018 9:08 pm - FD dispatched to a BALTUSROL ROAD residence for a reported structure fire. Millburn FD responded automatic aid as a RIC team. On arrival found a smoke condition in the area. A check of the structure found smoke on the first and second floors, with no visible fire. Smoke was observed coming from the roof line as well. A Signal 11 was transmitted for manpower. Utilizing a thermal camera the fire was found in the front walls of the first floor. A hose line was stretched to the 1st floor, and the area was opened up. Searches were conducted and were negative. FD found fire on the second floor during the search for possible victims. A second hose line was stretched to the second floor, and the areas opened up. A 2nd alarm was transmitted. Utilities were secured. Ventilation completed to improve conditions on the interior. All areas of fire were extinguished and FD checked for additional extension with none found. A fire investigation was completed. Ventilation was completed. House secured and FD actions were described to the home owner.
10/11/2018 9:57 PM - FD responded to ROUTE 24 WEST for a reported car fire utilizing Mutual Aid units covering Summit Headquarters due to the structure fire on BALTUSROL ROAD. Summit Rescue 1 and a Kenilworth Engine responded but were cancelled before arriving on scene by Millburn FD
10/17/2018 1:41 pm - FD dispatched to a MORRIS AVENUE restaurant for an activated fire alarm coming from the basement. On arrival building was evacuated. FD investigated and found a smoke condition in the basement. Further investigation found burnt food in the oven. Oven doors were opened by the chef, spreading smoke into the space causing the alarm. Oven was turned off, space was ventilated, fire alarm system reset, and occupants returned.
10/17/2018 2:50 pm - FD dispatched to ROUTE 78 WEST for a reported motor vehicle fire in the area of mm 46. On arrival found an unoccupied pickup truck that was towing a flatbed trailer with the engine and passenger compartments fully involved with fire. Summit FD used a 1-3/4 pre-connected hose line for extinguishment and overhaul with the assistance of Springfield FD. Transmitted a modified signal 10 for station coverage. Springfield FD was released and Summit FD remained on the scene until released by NJSP.
10/17/2018 10:27 pm - FD dispatched to a BANK STREET business for a reported extinguished fire. On arrival nothing showing from outside. Upon investigation FD found an extinguished fire and a smoke condition inside structure. The fire area was checked with a thermal imaging camera and overhauled. The tenants removed the burned debris and discarded it in a waste container in the rear of the structure prior to FD arrival. FD personnel located the items that were still smoldering and extinguished them. The building was ventilated and the alarm was found to be silenced by the tenants. Once the area was ventilated and completely overhauled, command was terminated.
10/21/2018 5:16 am - FD dispatched to ROUTE 124 EASTBOUND for a reported Motor Vehicle accident with injuries. Millburn FD was also dispatched for this incident. While in route, reports were received that the vehicle was fully involved in fire. Millburn FD arrived prior to Summit FD. Driver was out of the vehicle on arrival and was attended to by the Millburn FAS. A 1-3/4 inch hand line from the MFD engine was used to extinguish the fire. A recall was transmitted by Summit FD for station coverage as members assisted in extinguishment and overhaul.
10/21/2018 5:17 am - FD dispatched to a BLACKBURN ROAD school for a reported activated fire alarm. On arrival FD found a broken steam pipe from a heat radiator on the third floor of the building was the cause. Notification was made to an emergency contact to respond. Fire personnel turned off the boiler to stop the flow of water and remained on scene until the emergency contact arrived.
10/23/2018 10:53 pm - FD dispatched to a SPRINGFIELD AVENUE business for an activated fire alarm. Upon arrival most of the building was evacuated. Investigation found heavily burnt food in a second floor office area. Ventilation was performed to remove the smoke, but a strong odor persisted. The alarm was reset.
10/23/2018 3:07 pm - FD dispatched to an ORCARD STREET multifamily for a reported outside fire. On arrival, FD found a large pile of papers burning in the parking lot at the rear of the structure. The fire was knocked down with a 1-3/4 attack line.
10/23/2018 12:22 pm - FD dispatched to a SPRINGFIELD AVENUE multifamily for an activated fire alarm. On arrival FD checked fire alarm control panel which indicated, smoke detector room 331. Members investigated and found a smoke condition caused by unattended cooking. Toaster and food remains where secured by facility manager prior to our arrival. Unit and corridor naturally vented, and fire alarm system restored.
10/25/2018 5:18 pm - FD dispatched to the area of the SUMMIT TRAIN STATION for a reported outside fire. On arrival and investigation FD located a small fire between the base of tier garage rear stairway and the railroad fence. Fire was extinguished using a pressurized water can and area checked for extension with none found.
10/28/2018 - FD dispatched an automatic aid into Millburn for a reported structure fire on WOODLAND AVENUE in Millburn. Summit personnel assisted with ventilation and overhaul operations on scene. A modified signal 10 was transmitted to provide station coverage in Summit while units operated in Millburn.
10/31/2018 8:55 am - FD dispatched to a SUMMIT AVENUE residence for an activated fire alarm called in by contractors working at house. Millburn FD responded automatic aid as a RIC team. On arrival the owner indicated a pile of smoldering debris that was removed from the structure. A check of the structure found a smoke condition in the house, with multiple areas of burn marks visible on the flooring. FD checked the structure with a thermal camera found no extension. All partially burned material was removed from the structure and wet down with a pressurized water extinguisher. A ventilation fan was set up at the front door. A modified Signal 10 was transmitted for station coverage. The melted plastic burn areas were all checked, and all areas were found to be extinguished. Upon removal of all smoke, air monitoring was performed with no CO present.
