Family Fun Day

Food, Music, and More...Family Fun Day in Summit!

Get ready for a day of family fun on Saturday, September 28, as Family Promise turns Summit’s Memorial Field into a field of games and entertainment when it hosts its first ever Family Fun Day!

Bring the kids and join friends, neighbors, and Family Promise families to enjoy a day of food trucks, games, bounce houses, music, and more from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. No registration required and admission is free.

Summit-headquartered Family Promise is the national leader addressing the issue of family homelessness, known as the “invisible crisis” because families battling homelessness often prefer to keep their struggles private and hidden. One in 19 children in the U.S. experiences homelessness every day, and Family Promise hopes to raise awareness of the crisis, which affects families in Summit, Union County, and across the country.

All are welcome!

Update on the Achievement Gap?

February 18, 2020

At the last Board of Education meeting on 2/13/2020, I asked the board how it defines the achievement gap. I also asked if there was a game plan since no “Education Committee” reports in recent memory had alluded to any definitive plans for this chronic problem.

Not a single board member had an answer, and they all deferred to our outgoing superintendent, which tells me that they, ...

Advice From Life's Flight Attendants

Flight attendants give us the best advice.  In the event of an emergency, first put the oxygen mask on yourself before beginning to help anyone else.  Too often, our instincts are to care for others before we care for ourselves.  Whether an emergency or not, if we don’t take care of ourselves, we won’t be in the best position to help others.  During February, ...

The Adults in the Room

My house was recently designated as being “teen free”.

This is because my youngest two children just turned 20. They are twins. They are both in college, away from home. I only physically see them when they come home on breaks.

Turning 20 means they have run out of youthful brand names. After spending a lifetime transitioning from infants to toddlers to kids to tweens to teens ...
