SUMMIT, NJ - Four months ago, Summit-based Bridges Outreach announced a goal to connect 10 of its clients with housing.

That goal is now accomplished.

The 10 Bridges clients -- who formerly lived on the streets of Newark -- are approved to be housed, with five of them already in place.

Bridges is celebrating this achievement with an event on July 17, beginning at 6 p.m., featuring light hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Bridges will offer short remarks on how the goal was accomplished and what everyone can do to invigorate the overall effort to connect community friends to safe, sustainable housing.

The event will be held at Project Physique in Summit, located at 463 Springfield Avenue. The event is free, but registration is requested and available by visiting

Founded in 1988, Bridges reaches out to the homeless in New York, Newark, Irvington, and Summit each week. This year Bridges Outreach is commemorating 30 years of helping neighbors in need who are homeless and food insecure. Over the years, Bridges has delivered more than 100,000 meals and -- literally -- tons of clothing. In 2014, Bridges opened Project Connect in Newark to offer case management services that lead to better health, jobs, and housing. In four years, the initiative has helped find permanent housing for over 100 people who were previously homeless.
