SUMMIT, NJ - The top swap in the Hilltop City -- the Summit Free Market program -- now has established a digital home on Facebook as the group 'Virtual Summit Free Market'. The Free Market's spring event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which will also impact the possibility of hosting a fall event at the Free Market's new actual home at the Transfer Station.
Organizers agreed that an online option would be a positive way for Summit residents to continue to share no longer needed items and for others to reuse them.
The Summit Free Market is a student-run initiative that hosts seasonal events at the Transfer Station where residents are able to bring reusable, yard-sale quality items to share, and take whatever they may want or need at no charge. Since its inception in 2008, the Summit Free Market has served more than 6000 residents and has kept over 140 tons of reusable material from the waste stream.
