SUMMIT, NJ - The Hilltop City's 13th Annual Earth Day Clean-Up -- held April 27 at seven sites throughout Summit -- attracted 230 green volunteers who came out to clean up trash while beautifying and recycle at the same time. The day saw a 20 percent increase in the number of Hilltoppers pitching in.

The volunteers collected 5,100 lbs. of various kinds of waste and 800 lbs. of commingled recycling, in addition to applying 16 cubic yards of wood chips and 1 cubic yard of mulch to trail areas.

Among the volunteers were Scouts, community groups, business groups, families and individuals, who were spread-out at sites that included Briant Park, portions of Wilson Park, Martin's Brook Park, Passaic River Park and open spaces surrounding the Transfer Station near New Providence Avenue, Constantine Place and Risk Avenue.
