SUMMIT, NJ - The City of Summit, under advice of its legal counsel, will no longer release the specific gender and age of confirmed COVID-19 cases tied to a specific date of diagnosis.

The City had informed the media on April 2 that it would issue such a list weekly -- as compiled the Westfield Regional Health Department -- however, when asked for such a list by TAPinto Summit on April 6, City Administrator Michael Rogers replied via email that, "The City of Summit has been advised by our legal counsel not to release this information as other municipalities are being sued for releasing age and gender information tied to a date."

Rogers added that the City, "will be releasing the number of new, positive cases each day and posting the total number of cases, and no longer publicly sharing other details." Rogers further noted that the City will provide a patient age range and totals by gender each week.

Summit currently has 81 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
