SUMMIT, NJ - As the New Jersey State Department of Health informed the City of Summit of four new positive, confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Summit, the Westfield Regional Health Department (WRHD) has confirmed the first Summit fatality.

The identity, gender and age of the deceased was not provided.

“It is with heavy hearts that we relay this news to the community," said Summit Mayor Nora Radest. "Please keep this family in your prayers.”

While the City of Summit is no longer making specific patient detail tied to a specific date available to the public, the WRHD is indicating that Summit residents affected by the COVID-19 virus range in age from 20 to 79 years. Two residents have reported a full recovery, and 10 residents remain hospitalized.
