Each year on October 11, National Coming Out Day is celebrated across the country and the world to promote a safe world for LGBTQ individuals to live truthfully and openly. Today we mark the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day! This year the LGBTQ community is celebrating thirty years since the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.

This day is meant to remind everyone that one of the most basic tools against prejudice and stigma is the power of coming out. One out of every two Americans has someone close to them who is gay or lesbian and when we know someone who is LGBTQ, we are far more likely to support equality under the law.
