SUMMIT, NJ - The 'Hometown Heroes' program -- which sees banners displaying the names, images and dates of service of active military and veterans placed on select City of Summit streets -- will return for its third year beginning in mid-May and continuing through August 15. Enrollment is open through March 31 for the 2020 program, which will include a total of 200 honorees.

An individual qualifies to take part in the 'Hometown Heroes' program if they are serving or have served in any one of the following branches of the United States Armed Forces:

  • Air Force
  • Army
  • Coast Guard
  • Marines
  • Navy
  • Members of the United States Merchant Marine
  • Women Airforce Service Pilots in World War II

Applicants must also have lived in Summit at any time in the past or present, or are currently or have been employed by the City of Summit or Summit Board of Education, or are current or former volunteer members of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad, Police Auxiliary or Volunteer Fire Division.
