SUMMIT, NJ - Hiltiop City-based grassroots organization 'Summit Marches On' has mobilized a group of approximately 100 volunteers to help seniors and immune-compromised neighbors during the COVID-19 outbreak. The volunteers are matched with requests for errands.

'Summit Marches On' has established a direct phone number -- 908-605-0014 -- and an email -- -- for those who are requesting help.

A daily sign-up genius is sent each day by 10 a.m. to all registered volunteers, with those who can complete the request within 24 hours asked to sign-up while those who cannot fulfill the request within 24 hours are asked to refrain from signing up. Daily sign-ups will be sent as long as the social distancing protocols are in effect.

The type of errand will be noted in the request sign-up. 'Summit Marches On' has offered grocery shopping and prescription pick-up.

All volunteers are asked and reminded to follow the CDC guidelines and:

  • Wash their hands before leaving their home
  • Wear gloves, if at all possible
  • Leave goods at the door
  • Do not interact in person
  • Remember that all participants (volunteers and neighbors accepting help) do so at their own risk.

In addition, 'Summit Marches On' has announced a second initiative to combat the secondary effects of the pandemic -- 'Adopt-a-Family' -- wherein critical action is taken in partnership with GRACE - Giving and Receiving Assistance for our Community's Essentials, which has identified 45 families struggling to afford groceries. Volunteers would provide a weekly grocery bag that covers the breakfast and lunch needs for the number of family members noted.
