SUMMIT, NJ - There will be no parade through the streets of downtown and no accompanying ceremony on the Village Green as the City of Summit has announced that all Memorial festivities are canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The decision was, according to the City, made to protect the health and safety spectators and participants, and to comply with restrictions from the State of New Jersey related to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The events were scheduled to take place on May 25. 

In lieu of the annual procession and ceremony, the American Legion Post #322 will be sharing a pre-recorded Memorial Day ceremony video as a remote expression of profound appreciation for the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. The ceremony video can be viewed at on May 25. 

To further honor those who gave their lives for our country, the City of Summit Department of Community Programs is inviting the public to help create a 'Digital Parade' by submitting a photograph or making a video, homemade poster or flyer that will be shown on its website and Facebook page on May 23. Submissions should be directed to by May 21.
