SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Free Public Library offers up a double-dip of Sunday fun when it will host an afternoon jazz revue and a Friends of the Summit Library 'pop-up' holiday jewelry shop December 9
The cool jazz sounds of Carrie Jackson and 'The Guys in the Band' will present their jazz revue, Swingin’ and Singin’, from 2 - 3 p.m. in the Library’s rotunda. Jackson, a New York-based jazz vocalist, has a repertoire that is reminiscent of America's great jazz history, and has performed at top jazz venues in the New York Tri-State metropolitan area as well as touring in the U.S.and abroad.
Jackson attributes her vocal style of singing to her mentors, the Great Ladies of Jazz, Sarah "Sassy" Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Carmen McRae. She, along with 'The Guys in the Band' will perform selections from Gershwin, Ellington, Lerner & Loewe, and entertain the audience with jazz tunes from The Great American Song Book.
From 1 - 4 p.m., holiday shoppers can pick up some gifts for those on their list -- or for themselves -- by visiting the 'pop-up' holiday jewelry shop, which will feature a varied selection of previously-owned fine as well as a limited selection of costume jewelry.
The pop-up shop will have gifts for both men and women and include gift boxes with most purchases. Rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, watches, and more will be available, with proceeds helping to fund Library programs and purchase materials that benefit all Library patrons.
Funding for Carrie Jackson and 'The Guys in the Band' is made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, through a grant from the Union County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs.
The Summit Free Public Library is located at 75 Maple Street.
