SUMMIT, NJ - According to usapple.org, more than 100 varieties of the popular fruit are grown commercially in America, but no matter which type is the you-know-what of one's eye is, there will be but only one baked creation to emerge as the Grand Prize winner when the Summit Farmers Market hosts its annual 'Apple Pie Contest' September 29.

Amateur bakers are invited to bring their best apple pie to the Summit Farmers Market by 10:45 a.m., with judging begins at 11 a.m. The public will be able to sample all the pies after they have been judged.

The pies will be judged on three categories: crust, filling, and appearance.  All components must be made from scratch.  No canned fillings or pre-made crusts are allowed.
