SUMMIT, NJ - Washington Elementary School second grade teacher Laura Madden has been named the recipient of the 2020 Nora Radest Award for Excellence in Education by the Summit Educational Foundation (SEF).

Established in 2013, the Award is annually presented to a teacher or administrator who has submitted grants through the SEF process and, in doing so, has greatly enriched the classroom environment and served as a role model to others in the Summit Public School District.

Madden has been an active grant writer and recipient, writing 20 grants during the past 10 years, collaborating with other teachers on 15 of them, and bringing innovation to her classroom and school.

During the virtual Award presentation, Madden said that she was inspired by long-time former Washington teacher and mentor, Maggie Irwin.
