SUMMIT, NJ - The annual Summit incarnation of 'National Night Out' (NNO), which has become one the Summit Police Department's signature community policing events, will not be held August 4 as originally scheduled. Following a request from the National Association of Town Watch to move the annual event to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, Summit -- along with communities throughout the country -- is postponing the event to October 6.
'National Night Out' is a community-building event that features a variety of Federal, State, County, and municipal-level agencies collaborating with community members in an effort to build a safer and well-connected community. Past events have seen demonstrations by Union County SWAT and K-9 Units, New Jersey State Police, FBI, Summit Police Department, Summit Fire Department, Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad and the City of Summit Public Works Departments.
Held on the Village Green, Summit's NNO also historically included interactive demonstrations, the 'Blessing of the Badges', a live music stage, a bicycle stunt show and the ever-popular 'Dunk-A-Cop' dunk tank, the proceeds of which benefit a local cause.
