SUMMIT, NJ - Overlook Medical Center was placed on lockdown for more than 90 minutes after reports of a suspicious individual, possibly with a handgun.

According to the Summit Police Department, the subsequent active police investigation restriction and search -- conducted floor-by-floor, room-by-room, and which included all MAC buildings and the parking structures -- led to the discovery of the person of interest, who was cleared of any involvement.

The Summit Police responded to the scene at approximately 2 p.m. The campus was cleared and reopened at 3:40 p.m. All adjacent roadways are now open.

In a statement from Overlook Medical Center: "Earlier this afternoon there was a report of a suspicious person at Overlook Medical Center.
