SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Fire Department battled a fire that engulfed a significant portion of a residential structure located at 59 Morris Avenue on November 11. Responding to a call at 9:32 a.m., firefighters found smoke coming from the house and discovered that the fire, which initially was found on the first floor of the dwelling, had spread to the building's second floor.

There were two minor injuries reported -- to a responding Union County police officer and Summit firefighter. Both were transported to Overlook Hospital. No residents in the home were injured.

The fire was declared under control at 10:51 a.m.

The Summit Police Department and Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad assisted at the scene along with Union County Mutual Aid. 

The fire is being investigated by the Summit Fire Department Investigation Unit.
