SUMMIT, NJ - City of Summit Chief of Police Robert K. Weck has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Accordiing to the City, Weck began to experience flu-like symptoms approximately 10 days ago. He immediately sought medical attention and began to self-quarantine. A test for COVID-19 was administered on March 24.
Contact tracing was completed, no other Summit police officers or administrative staff has exhibited symptoms associated with the COVID-19 coronavirus, and Weck is at recovering at home.
While Chief Weck is on medical leave, Captain Andrew Bartolotti will serve as Officer in Charge and be responsible for the daily operation of the Summit Police Department.
Less than a month ago, on March 5, the City announced that Weck will retire, effective June 1, after a more than three decades-long career with the Summit Police Department.
