SUMMIT, NJ - In an effort to reduce the likelihood of exposure to the COVID-19 virus, the Summit Police Department will now -- until further notice -- accept police reports by telephone only. According to the Department, the move is based on guidance and recommendations from health officials, and a priority to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the Summit community, police officers and civilian staff.

To file a police report, call police dispatch at 908-273-0051. Callers will be asked to provide a name and telephone number. A police officer will return the call and obtain the necessary information to complete the report. To retrieve a copy of a police report, call the Summit Police Department Records Bureau at 908-277-9396 or contact jortman@spdnj.org. Proof of identification is required to retrieve a copy of a police report.

In the event of an emergency, call 911 for an immediate response.
