SUMMIT, NJ - The City of Summit Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 20 Weaver Street in Summit at 10:07 p.m. on December 26. Upon arrival, firefighters immediately encountered heavy fire and smoke showing from the 2.5-story, two-family residence.

Two residents -- who jumped from a second-story window to escape the fire -- were injured in the blaze and transported to Overlook Medical Center. There condition is unknown at this time. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

The fire was declared under control at approximately 11:40 p.m.

The City of Summit Police Department and Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad assisted at the scene. Mutual Aid was provided by the Millburn, Springfield, Union and New Providence fire departments. Station coverage was provided by Westfield, Mountainside and Scotch Plains fire departments.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time and is being investigated by the Summit Fire Department Investigation Unit.
