SUMMIT, NJ - Hilltop City seniors, age 60 and older, can choose from a variety of fitness and wellness classes made available by the City of Summit Department of Community Programs.

Offerings, all of which take place at the Summit Community Center and are available to Summit residents for an annual fee of $10, include:

Gentle Chair Yoga

An opportunity for members to learn a new form of exercise and relaxation all while safely seated in a chair. Instructor Kati Walker draws from various styles of yoga, modifying the positions for seniors with balance and range of motion issues. Walker teaches stress management breathing techniques with guided image visualization. Held Mondays, from 12 - 1 p.m., and  Fridays, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

T’ai Chi

Learn to relax and de-stress using the gentle, low-impact motions of T’ai Chi with instructor Ayriel Germanton. Many health benefits are attributed to this ancient health practice beyond stress reduction. Held Wednesdays, from 10 - 11 a.m.

Get Forever Fit in February

Forever Fit Class Classes offer a fun and gentle workout that includes light cardio, stretching and Arthritis Foundation-approved exercises to improve balance and flexibility. Held February 6 through March 26 at a cost of $40 for eight weeks. Registration available by visiting summitcommunityprograms.com or by calling 908-277-2932.

Each month, a newsletter containing information about upcoming activities and events is distributed to members.The Community Center also maintains a card room, lounge and game room for daily use. Non-resident rates are available by request. For more information, call 908-277-2932.
