WAYNE, NJ - Bouncing back quickly from their first defeat in nearly two months, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team easily defeated DePaul Catholic, 72-44. The win, the Hilltoppers' 19th in their past 20 games, takes the Maroon and White's season record to 22-3.
Summit senior captain Eric Baier scored 30 points and added eight rebounds, classmates Jalen Russell and Charles Lord each had 13 points, and senior captain Will Hellings messed around and nearly got a Triple-Double, notching 10 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists. Senior captain Joe Lusardi snared 10 rebounds to go with his four points.
John O'Reilly had 13, while Jaheim Best and Anthony Corbo added 10 and 9 points, respectively, to pace the Spartans.
The 'Top was on top 37-29 at the half and then dominated the final 16 minutes to the tune of 35-15 beat.
Summit will now face Pingry at the Main Gym February 28 in their final tuneup prior to the NJSIAA State Tournament, Tip-off versus Big Blue is set for 4 p.m.
