SUMMIT, NJ - Surrendering a goal in the match's opening minutes and then allowing another score -- from the penalty spot -- before the contest was 10-minutes old, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team dug itself a two-goal-sized hole that proved too much to climb out of versus Elizabeth at Tatlock Park.
Down a brace, the Maroon and White were -- like the weather -- brighter in the second half but, ultimately, the Minutemen found the back of the net twice more and earned a deserved 4-nil victory over the Hilltoppers. The defeat leaves the boys from the 07901 with a 6-3-1 mark heading into a 'Summit Derby' match at Oratory Prep September 28. Kick-off versus the Rams is set for 11 a.m.
Emiliano Cabellero had two goals and Dylan Valencia kept the clean sheet in goal to pace Elizabeth.
In other Boys soccer news, Summit has received the number-two seed in the Union County Tournament and will open play in the quarterfinal round. Elizabeth is the one seed, with Westfield and Scotch Plains-Fanwood are slotted third and fourth, respectively.
